Implementation of the National Approach (HoMER) – Current Status

Recently, NHMRC has received a number of queries concerning the status of the ‘National Approach’ to single ethical review of multi-centre research. The ability of institutions to accept or undertake a single ethical review will vary, depending on the jurisdiction(s) or sector(s) in which the research is proposed to take place.

New Measures to Support Australian Clinical Trials

On 17 February 2013, the Ministers for Health and Industry and Innovation announced a range of measures that will support clinical trial activity in Australia. This work will involve NHMRC, the Department of Health and Ageing and the Department of Industry, Innovation, Science Research and Tertiary Education and build upon the work done to date to implement the recommendations of the Clinical Trials Action Group (CTAG) Report.

A New Website for Australian Clinical Trials

On 11 October 2012, the Minister for Health and Ageing and the Minister for Industry and Innovation launched australianclinicaltrials.gov.au – a consumer friendly clinical trials website that helps put potential research participants and patients in contact with clinical trial researchers.
